Heavy metal fans, let’s take a moment to say farewell to one of music’s rawest vocalists: Ian Fraser “Lemmy” Kilmister–singer, songwriter, bad-ass bassist.

While with the iconic Motorhead, Lemmy carved out a niche for himself as one of the most important figures in metal and hard rock. He redefined the role of the bassist and had such a savage voice that I believe it could have physically kicked people’s asses.

He lived a fast, hard lifestyle, and his talents were evident and abundant. Motorhead was always in the state of reinvention, and Lemmy stayed influential despite never trying to be. That’s the measure of a true luminary, and he most certainly was that.

RIP Lemmy–your legend and impact are both eternal.
