LYRICAL POETRY: YOUR GOODBYE KEEPS ME ALIVE (from TIMES FADE)

I could have said a million things

To change the way things went

I could have never walked away

Woman, I can take a hint

But I just didn’t care.

And now that you’re not standing there

I’m standing here alone

I got shadows on my mind

That march across my bones

I’m just glad that you said goodbye

If you left in silence then I might die

I can deal with your shadow in the wind

But I don’t think that I could bear-

An emptiness hanging there

A darkened tunnel without an end

I know my heart would not survive

Your goodbye keeps me alive.

I know you loved me but I’m no saint

I’m just a lonely, broken man

I got demons galore inside my heart

Their ways are all I understand

Doesn’t mean that I don’t care

Just means that I can’t stay out here

I’m somehwere on the road

Crossing Hell, where I belong

And I’m carrying its load.

I’m just glad I heard you say goodbye

Instead of having to hear you cry

I can deal with the sound of a broken heart

But I don’t think that I could hear-

The sound of your falling tears

I know that the pain would tear me apart

I know my soul would not survive

Your goodbye keeps me alive.
